– Emergency Preparedness and Response

Emergency Preparedness Committee(EPC) has an obligation to its citizens and visitors to manage emergency and disaster situations effectively.

During an emergency, you may see the EPC provide generator assistance for those with medical equipment or lack of alternate heat, a dry shelter, warm food, and/or drinking water.

 

BE PREPARED FOR ANY EMERGENCY!

Ice Storms, Blizzards, Floods, and Other Disasters

Be ready to be your own for 3 days – Fill your car’s gas tank

Need to have on hand :

  • Battery-operated radio & batteries
  • Flashlights & batteries
  • Candles/matches
  • Fuel for alternate heat source i.e. wood, kerosene
  • One week’s supply of prescription medicine
  • Bottled water
  • Hand-operated can opener
  • non-perishable food items
  • Baby food and diapers
  • Pet food

If you need to go to a shelter bring the following:

  • Pillows, blankets, towels, washcloths
  • Change of clothes
  • Medication for one week
  • Personal hygiene items: soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, etc.
  • Medical supplies that you are currently using
  • Books, magazines, etc.
  • Important papers

Stock up for Three to Seven Days

Food and Water:

  •  Two gallons per person per day
  • Ready-to-eat canned foods – vegetables, fruit, beans, meat, fish, poultry, pasta, soup, juice
  • Milk-powdered, canned, or shelf-stable brick
  • Nuts, peanut butter, jelly, trail mix
  • Sugar, salt, pepper, instant coffee, tea bags, cocoa
  • Specialty food – food for the elderly or people on special diets

Health and Hygiene Supplies

  • Prescription medication
  • first aid kit-bandages, gauze pads, antiseptic, pain killers, tweezers, scissors
  • Toilet paper
  • No rinse hand antiseptic
  • Toiletries – toothpaste, deodorant
  • Feminine hygiene supplies

Household Supplies

  • One gallon of unscented liquid chlorine bleach
  • Flashlights – one in each room of the house
  • Propane fuel – if you use a grill or camp stove
  • Charcoal – if you use a barbecue grill
  • Paper plates, paper cups, paper napkins
  • Plastic bags – zip sealing, garbage
  • Cash/traveler’s checks
